Experience

I maintain a flexible tutoring schedule as well as fees on a sliding scale. I am committed to offering a personalized tutoring experience that emphasizes the relevance of the subject to the student and current events. My experience to date indicates that we all learn more and better when using a pragmatic approach that is interactive and references the student's own life experiences. All too often it is not a student's subjects that determine their level of interest and performance, but rather the format in which those subjects are taught. An effective teacher or tutor must demonstrate how these topics - whether they be civics, chemistry or philosophy - have an immediate effect on their daily lives. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Portland where I was inducted into the Phi Alpha Theta national History Honor Society. Additionally, I received a Master of Arts in International Policy Studies from the Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS), A Graduate School of Middlebury College.

Hobbies

My personal interests closely resemble many of the topics I teach. I remain a versatile, professional writer after nearly two decades of publishing everything from poetry to market research. I am an active advocate of pragmatic, bipartisan political solutions for the contemporary United States- and you just cannot be an effective writer or political analyst unless you, as Mark Twain said, "get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please". It is for this reason that a sound grasp of history remains the foundation of any influential social commentary- written or otherwise. My own personal interests are, perhaps accordingly, rather quiet and quaint. As a new family man who was primarily influenced by my Anglophile grandfather, I enjoy boating and fishing with my dogs, nature walks, world travel, trading yarns at the pub- and reading books by the fireplace. I am also a true believer in social justice whose idealism has been fundamentally reinforced- rather than eroded- by the past decade of cynicism in American Society.
