Private tutor in Arlington, VA
Sarah Lawrence College - BA, American Studies & Sociology , New York University - PhD, American Studies
Armed with a classical liberal arts academic background and three years of expertise in humanities-related tutoring, I'm ready to provide tutoring services in a large array of subject matter in both social sciences and the humanities. I'm confident that I have the right mix of education and experience to help my students to improve their writing skills as well as to successfully grapple with standardized testing sections, including those in the SAT Writing and GRE Verbal sections.I earned an undergraduate degree in American studies and sociology while studying at Sarah Lawrence College, and over the course of my studies there I wrote hundreds of pages worth of research papers. My tutoring style is not only collaborative, but also student-focused. The best approach, in my opinion, is to make the effort to understand what level of understanding students are at, base my tutoring instruction on their learning level, and build this up to the extent that their understanding of the material steadily increases.I have a passion for education, especially subject matter such as sociology, writing, and history. In fact, I will start to work towards my PhD this fall with the intention of eventually becoming a professor. When I'm taking a bit of a breather, I like to enjoy some good coffee and to play with my dogs.
