Adam D.
Private tutor in Arlington, VA
Education
Graduate of Northwestern University with a BA in Economics (GPA 3.52). Self-taught developer in R, Python, Javascript, and front-end web development. As a high school student, I scored 1560/1600 on the SAT, 32/36 on the ACT, and earned a 5 on numerous AP tests. I'm currently prepping for the GMAT and grad school applications.
Experience
I spent my first two years after undergrad teaching 10th and 11th grade math. I've been tutoring part-time for over 5 years since on a part-time basis totaling 1500+ hours. I've taught SAT and ACT prep courses many times, both one-on-one and in a classroom setting. My one-on-one students see an average improvement of 130 points (out of 1600) on the SAT after a 20 hour unit. I enjoy working with students of all levels, but especially those that are struggling to make sense of a bunch of equations and formulas. I've often found that once students understand why they are doing something, the calculations come very naturally.

Hobbies
On the weekends I'm usually playing pickup frisbee, exploring a new trail in Shenandoah, or jogging around the mall. I'm a huge fan of college football, especially the Big Ten. I'm a pretty good cook and like experimenting with Asian flavors. I also enjoy programming and use this in my day job. I'd love to get your son/daughter excited about the field by introducing small projects they can do!
