Experience

I simply care about those I teach and tutor. It is this caring along with my knowledge and experience combined with the student's dedication that results in academic success. For two years, I volunteered with the Peace Corps in Zambia. While I was there, I taught English to fifth through ninth grade students at an underprivileged school.Even after regular school hours, I worked with the ninth grade students on test preparation two times a week. In these sessions, we went over English, Civics, Geography, Algebra 1, and Geometry. I also worked one-on-one with elementary students with their reading and phonics during this time. I also led adult literacy classes once a week. Before these classes began, only 5 percent of the ninth graders graduated to tenth grade. After one year of my involvement, 85 percent of the ninth graders went on to tenth grade. The students were so dedicated to learning, and the prep classes made a huge difference.It was exciting to be a part of this overall academic success and lends to show how I can work with students to achieve their academic goals! My education includes graduating with degrees in both International Studies and Spanish. I also minored in both History and Geology.
