Education

Princeton (Class of 2024) Math/Physics Tutor

Experience

I am a senior at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJ), which is generally regarded as one of the very top STEM schools in the country (TJ was recently ranked by US News as the #1 STEM high school in the country) and have accepted an offer to attend Princeton University in the fall. In addition, I spent last summer in Cambridge interning at a physics lab at Harvard University and have authored a free pre-calculus math textbook. I have strong, demonstrated interests in science and math, including outstanding performances in AP Physics-C with Electricity and Magnetism, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Calculus BC, Multivariable Calculus, Advanced Mathematical Techniques for Scientists and Engineers, and Quantum Mechanics. I also received perfect scores on the SAT subject matter tests for Math II, Physics, and Chemistry, as well as the ACT math section. I have tutored a number of middle and high school students locally for several years with very positive feedback and results, including repeat-customer-families coming back for help with other siblings. I would also be a good fit for students taking introductory college courses. My general tutoring method is a student-centered problem solving approach: explaining a concept and then letting the student use it to solve progressively harder problems (with my support when necessary). Through four years at a tough high school, the most valuable lesson I learned is that students learn best when they actually do the problems themselves, with guidance and support along the way. At the same time, I appreciate each student is different and tailor my tutoring as appropriate. Lastly, for a limited time I will be offering a free initial 30-minute session.
