Bryce S.
Private tutor in Arlington, VA
Education
I graduated from the Virginia Tech honors program in 2011. I earned degrees in math and economics, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
Experience
I am very intuitive teacher. I am also dedicated to my students. I meet them at "their level" and get a lot out of seeing them succeed. I specialize in helping people who tend to be shooed away from studying math: women, children from low-income families, adult students, liberal arts majors. Math did not come naturally to me, so I easily empathize with people who struggle with it. I have tutored for about 10 years, starting in high school. I supported myself as a tutor at VT. Now I tutor 5-10 students. I also volunteer at a center that serves low-income students in D.C. ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS In high school, I made 5's on most of my AP tests, including BC Calc. I scored well on the SAT. In college, I got A's in multivariable calculus and differential equations. I earned an A- or better in all but one economics course. I earned A's in my two stats courses. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS I interned at an investment advisory in college. After I graduated, I worked as an economics researcher. I analyzed survey data from Iran. I switched careers after I won an essay contest. I interned in a U.S. Senator's press shop. I also interned at The American Prospect, a national political magazine. During that time, some of my research on Iran was presented at The World Bank. I also published an article in the Prospect's print edition.

Hobbies
I am patient, agreeable, and have a good sense of humor. I don't mind going past schedule when my students are working hard. In my spare time, I play guitar with friends. I also volunteer as a coach for a youth baseball team in Arlington. For people who live in Arlington, I prefer to meet in Central Library. But I am happy to meet wherever is most convenient. Feel free to email me with any questions.
