Experience

I have over fifteen years of experience teaching all levels of Spanish. Most of my experience is with high school, college, and adult learners. I am comfortable tutoring any level of Spanish and will gladly customize our sessions to meet your needs. In 2012, I received my Doctorate in Spanish Linguistics from the University of Illinois. I have been working for for the federal government in DC for four years. I am also an adjunct instructor of Spanish at George Mason University. Most recently, I taught an advanced Spanish culture and language for undergraduate and graduate students. Sample of classes I have taught: • Undergraduate basic and intermediate Spanish • Spanish grammar review • Spanish reading and conversation • Spanish linguistics • Spanish community service class • Undergraduate/graduate seminar on Latin American culture and language Time spent in Latin America: I have lived in South America and Mexico for extended periods of times for both research and travel. I love sharing with my students first-hand experiences in Latin America, which helps students connect more with the culture and language. I also travel frequently to Latin America for work and pleasure. I have also been to Ecuador, Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Panama, Costa Rica, and Puerto Rico. Other skills and experience: • Former attendee of Virginia’s Spanish Governor’s Academy • High School AP Spanish score: 5 (perfect score) • Foreign language studies: I have also studied college French, German, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese, Quechua, and Aymara. • Former State Department intern at the U.S. Embassy in Bolivia. • Lived in Peru and Mexico for academic studies and research. Extensive travel throughout Latin America. How I can help you or your child? Are you a parent concerned because your child is struggling with Spanish and writing, or preparing for the AP Spanish exam? Are you a student just needing some extra help with a specific assignment? I have tutored Spanish for over fifteen years, and specialize in helping students from elementary school middle to graduate school drastically improve their foreign language skills. I love Spanish and would welcome the opportunity to work with you or your child. I enjoy motivating students to learn and grow. As I tutor, my aim is to keep my students engaged 100% of the time. I use visuals, games, and rewards to help my students get the most out of each lesson. Spanish Tutoring: • In person, tutoring via webcam, and editing of Spanish and English documents. • I offer packages based on the frequency of the sessions, the level, and the location of the session. Packages are negotiable.
